Restoration of antique and replica muzzleloaders

I was not even five years of age and yet I was alwready under the charm of these old muzzleloaders. Where did I get this passion in the first place? I don't know. Maybe from another life ! Who knows?

To excell in something one must have the passion within himself. Fo me it's a passion of a life time that will never die.

I love doing this so I do not count the time that I invests in each project. I just work on it untill the result is perfect to my perfectionist eye. My great joy is to see the satisfaction in the eyes of the owner when he sees the ·finish results.

Restoration of antique and replica muzzleloaders

We specialise in muzzleloaders

The restoration of an antique weapon requires the use of original components but often it is difficult to find what is needed. If we can not find it then we can build one that will resemble the missing original one. In that case we have many means to age this part so that it will perfectly blend with the patina of the weapon.

We can make any flint or percussion lock work again. As for flint locks we can also enhance ther efficiency drastically. The mechanical components of an antique weapon aie its main quality. The market value of a weapon can be much more if the gun is fonctional and even more yet if it is successfully test fired.

Each restored weapon cornes with a signed and very detailed description of the work that was done to it. This document is dated and may stay with the gun in its future.

CANADIAN FIREARMS LEGISLATION

In Canada there are no restrictions on selling or buying antiques firearms. By the Canadian Firearm Act, the designations of antique firearms are :

  • Any firearm manufactured before 1898 that was not designed to discharge rim-fire or centerfire ammunition and that as not been redesigned to discharge such ammunition.

  • Reproductions of flintlock, wheel-lock or matchlock firearms, other than handguns, manufactured after 1897.

The above weapons are exempt from the licence and registration requirements set out in the Firearms Act. Meaning that they don't have to be registered and that no licence is required to possess them.

NB : Percussion reproduction muzzleloaders (cap Iock) are not considered as antiques but as nonrestricted fiream1s. As such, they don't have to be registered but a licence is required to possess them.

As an exemple, reproductions of percussion muzzleloaders like American civil war Enfield or Springfield rifles are not considered as antique fireanns. They are considered as non-restricted firearms since the mean of ignition is not flintlock, matchlock or wheellock.
